How We Saved the Rodeo
Gary Cavey with Leisure Management Company needed a specialty contracting company in 1995 due to the impending closing of the Astrodome...at the direction of the Harris County Fire Marshall...4 weeks before the Houston Livestock and Rodeo. When he called, his first words were that he wanted to receive the highest quality services and parts without any excuses or delays. He had called around in Houston, Texas to find a company that had experience with panic exit devices, steel doors and also was able to provide a wide range of glass glazing and installation. He had remembered that J C Glass had provided him with superior service in the past and I knew that our work was exceptional. Once we accepted the assignment was simply enthusiastic and relieved about his choice.
We knew that we were the right partners! Mr. Cavey contacted Mattie Carrillo by phone and she answered immediately! He explained what he needed and she understood everything, but what was even more impressive, to him and to Mr. Greg Golightly, now with the Houston Livestock and Rodeo, the on site supervisor, was the crews she sent out to complete the work, were well briefed on the project, understood what needed to be done and came with all the necessary tools and parts that were needed. The trucks had the J C Glass logo and phone number on them so he and everyone knew who was coming to fix his problem, not like some companies he had seen in the past. By the time the decision was made and the contract was awarded, J C Glass had just about 3 weeks to get the Astrodome into compliance, per the Houston Fire Code. That included the repair, replacement or installation of over 200 panic exit devises. After the initial repairs, J C Glass kept a crew on site for almost a year, to complete other code requirements, a total project cost to Harris County of about $500,000.
